80. Rachel Lecker, miniature vase

80. Rachel Lecker, miniature vase

For Lecker, see item 79.

White clay, glazed in black, gray, and white; base unglazed. Weight: 86 g (3 oz). Rim diameter: 5 cm (2 in). Maximum diameter: 5.3 cm (2-1/8 in). base diameter: 3.7 cm (1-1/2 in). Height: 6.7 cm (2-5/8 in).

This sits directly on the flat base. “Rachel Lecker 2019” was incised into the base. From the base the walls curve in a convex arc to the neck. The maximum diameter is reached 2.7 cm (1-1/8 in) above the base. The neck is 4.7 cm (1-7/8 in) in diameter and 5.7 cm above the base. Above the neck, the walls angle outward slightly in straight line to the rim.

The interior and the exterior were first covered in white. The lower part of the exterior was dipped in a gray glaze with black flecks at a shallow angle. The black was added next in a rough rectangle covering about half the pot; the applicator use to apply the black was lightly dragged across the gray surface, leaving a stained area. The base and the walls immediately above the base were left unglazed.

Purchased at the annual spring sale at Feet of Clay Pottery, Brookline, Massachusetts, April 2019.
