36. Liza Fisher, small wood-fired vase

36. Liza Fisher, small wood-fired vase

For Fisher, see item 34.

Light gray clay, various shades of brown from the wood-firing.  Weight: 230 g (8 oz). Rim diameter: 4 cm (1-1/2 in); maximum diameter: 7.5 cm (3 in); base diameter: 5.5 cm (2-1/8 in). Height: 15 cm (6 in).

Hand thrown. This sits directly on the base, which is slightly concave. Fisher’s mark, a cursive "LF," is incised into the base. The base has a slight lip. There are three circular marks from the wads used to separate pieces from the shelving within the kiln. The maximum diameter is about 9 cm (2-3/4 in), and the neck begins about 11.7 cm (4-5/8 in), above the base. The diameter at the narrowest point of the neck is 3.5 cm (1-1/4 in).

The colors range from a light yellowish tan through dark browns. There is an ash deposit on one side; otherwise the surface is quite smooth (visible on the left side of the pot in the third photo). Except at the mouth, the interior appears untouched by the smoke and fumes.

Purchased from the artist at Watering Cove Studios, Prospect Harbor, Maine, October 2017.
