90. Emelia Hearn, small globular pot

90. Emelia Hearn, small globular pot

Reddish-tan clay, blue-green glaze; base left unglazed. Weight: 306 g (11 oz). Mouth diameter: 4.4 cm (1-3/4 in); maximum diameter: 8.7 cm (3-1/2 in); base diameter: 7.5 cm (3 in). Height: 7.7 cm (3-1/8 in).

Hearn is a Boston-area potter. I’ve been unable to find further information on her.

This sits directly on the flat base. “ESH” was stamped into the base. From the base, the walls rise in a convex arc to the mouth. The maximum diameter is 3.7 cm (1-1//2 in) above the base, or roughly half-way. The pot is slightly irregularly formed about the mouth.

With the exception of the base, the pot was glazed inside and out with a blue-green glaze. The coloring is very uniform and even.

Purchased at the annual winter sale at Feet of Clay Pottery, Brookline, Massachusetts, December 2019.
